Self Catering in Perthshire
Wed, Nov 17, 2010In our family it’s all about the food. People are shocked when they eat with us because we tend to plan lunch as we’re eating breakfast and dinner as we’re eating lunch. We stated planning the menu for our three night stay in Perthshire months before going there last February. Long lists were cut down to short lists until we finally decided what we were having and who was cooking what.
One of our priorities when looking for self catering accommodation was the kitchen. We wanted something nicer than home and it had to have a dining table big enough for us all to sit around. Straloch House, a stunning self catering house in Perthshire, did not disappoint. The large kitchen was very well equipped, it even included a drinks chiller under the island unit. The everhot stove took a little bit of working out but once we realised we weren’t supposed to turn it off it worked like a dream!
This Wanderfood Wednesday I would like to share some photos of the delicious food we ate on this perfect family weekend. The photos were taken by my talented husband and more can be seen on his website.
Gorgeous grilled asparagus.
This steak was bought from our local butcher in Edinburgh. It was tender and very tasty as always.
The finished meal on our first night was steak with rocket, parmesan and asparagus.
On our second night we had Thai Green Curry.
I love this photo of my mum blowing our her birthday candles.
What do you love to cook at home or when you go on holiday? Please leave your comments below.

Thanks Nicole, it was such a great weekend. My mum turned 60 and Euan was just 6 weeks old so I have lots of happy memories.
Great post. I never thought about a cooking vacation but what a fabulous idea. I love the thought of getting a place with a big fancy kitchen.
The food looks scrumptious and your husband’s photos are stunning. Now I’m hungry. Are there any leftovers?

Ummmmm…I’m pretty sure that the food tastes delectable. Self-catering is a part of an outing and also bonded everyone with enjoyment helping together while preparing for food. Nice photos also!
I haven’t try a cooking vacation and looking with the photos and reading this post, I am convinced that it is a great idea. This one could be a good bonding moments with my family and friends. I’m so excited to try the idea, hopefully my schedule would allow me to do so. Lol. Thanks for sharing those wonderful photos. The family looks amazing.

I have the same feeling just what you had during this occasions, the spending time with the family and the cooking together stuffs. But unfortunately, I rarely visit my parents’ mobile home at Arkansas because of my hectic schedules. But I still do hope and looking forward to get together with them every weekend.
it is so nice to come back home for a sumptuous and delicious lunch with your family. . . I also experiece this kind of a gathering with my family every weekend. Very refreshing! Especially when you are drained and stressed out, it is very relaxing spending time together with the family, looking at the kids playing and eating your favorite food.
I agree, it’s so nice to enjoy a meal with the family. We go to my mum’s almost every Sunday, it’s a great tradition of catching up and eating hearty food.
