Edinburgh’s Winter Wonderland with Kids
Fri, Jan 7, 2011The Christmas tree is down and the waistline suitably expanded but there are still a couple of days left to experience Edinburgh’s Winter Wonderland in Princes Street Gardens.
In December we had a day out at the German Market to celebrate my father in law’s birthday. It’s a great place to go with kids who will love the fairground rides and ice skating. For bigger kids there are a variety of mulled wine stalls to warm you up!
Euan loved looking out from his buggy at all the trinkets on sale at the stalls. It was pretty icy underfoot so we had to be careful.
I am ashamed to say that I’ve never been on the big wheel that Shenar and I are pointing out to Euan in this photo. The views are supposed to be spectacular. Maybe next year…
It was all a bit much for Euan so he took a nap in his buggy. We couldn’t resit the opportunity to stop for a warm drink. The boys had mulled wine…
and I had hot chocolate.

It was a great day. That scarf is old but still much loved and definitely needed in the weather that we’re having at the moment!
Never been there . . . looks terrific! Love how your baby is peeking through the blankets!

I have stroller envy! (I should say buggy envy!) What a great way to keep him all warm and cozy!

Sonja and Nicole, I’m always dead jealous of Euan. Wouldn’t it be great to be wrapped up like that and pushed around all day?! Take a snooze any time you fancy? Bliss!
what a lovely family day out — and I think that’s a great scarf too, I am sure well needed along with the hot chocolate.

Thanks Kerry. It was a great day and both were well needed!!
An Endinburgh Winterwonderland a few years back was where I had my first experience of ice-skating. I had hoped to get Willem there this year but it didn’t happen – hopefully some time in the not too distant future.

What a cute little cargo you have
I really like that stroller. Seems warm and quite easy to use. And I’m craving your hot chocolate!
Those look like great photos of the shows at Princes Street. We always enjoy Hogmanay in Edinburgh! Keep up the blogging. Best wishes, Edinburgh Employment Law

I love the photo of you drinking hot chocolate. We’re hoping to be in Edinburgh come December, I’m really looking forward to taking the kids here. It looks like a lot of fun … although I think I’ll be asking your advice for good grippy kids shoes that help them avoid slipping over in the ice! We didn’t go last time we were in Edinburgh (2001) – we were too young and cool for winter carnivals!
Thanks Tracy! I hope you make it over in December, it’s such a lovely time to be in Edinburgh with all the lights etc. I’ll get back to you re the grippy shoes – Euan is still in his first pair so I haven’t had much experience in that area yet! Come Winter I’ll be on the hunt though! Lots of people wear ice grips on their boots. I wonder if they do those for kids….
